The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) is an economic development programme of the African Union. NEPAD was adopted in July 2001 at the 37th Summit Meeting of Heads of State and Government in Lusaka.
The task of NEPAD is to develop values and oversee their implementation in the context of the African Union.
At their 2002 summit, the G8 put forward the Action Plan for Africa as a response to NEPAD. All the G8 countries agreed to enter into partnerships with a NEPAD country. These partnerships include amongst other things health care and economic projects, debt relief and water management.
